FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
How Do I Relieve Ear Pressure During Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Treatment?
- As the chamber pressurizes, you may experience pressure in your ears (similar to taking off on an airplane). The easiest way to relieve any discomfort this may cause is to equalize your ears using one or more of the following methods:
- Close your mouth and firmly clamp your nose shut with your fingers and thumb. Blow, as if you were blowing your nose, but keep nose and mouth closed. You will feel the air come out through your ears when you have done this procedure correctly, and this should relieve the pressure.
- Stretching your mouth as wide as possible, even stretching your tongue out. This will cause the sinus passages surrounding your ears to drain and relieve the pressure.
- You can also massage the area just below the ears and right behind the jaw. If you are with your child in the chamber who is having trouble with their ears during pressurization, try the same massaging technique to make the decompression more comfortable.
- Turn your head completely to the right, then completely to the left. Repeat earlier steps until the ears are cleared.
- For those who are unable to equalize ear pressure, eustachian tuboplasty, a minimally invasive out-patient procedure, can be performed. This is very rare.

Benefits of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy include:
Improved Immune Function
Antiviral/Antibacterial
Boosts white blood cell counts. White blood cells help fight and prevent disease by making antibodies that attack bacteria and toxins, helping to destroy infected or cancerous cells, and identifying and eliminating pathogens.
Accelerated Tissue Healing
Oxygen is our most essential nutrient, crucial for proper and efficient healing of most injuries. Hyperbaric therapy significantly increases oxygenation of the body’s tissues, helping your body to heal itself in profound ways.
Increased Stem Cell Production
Stem cells replace specialized cells in your body that are damaged or lost. By increasing stem cell production by over 800%, hyperbaric oxygen therapy can vastly accelerate healing.
Increased Blood Flow
Increase blood flow and circulation through new blood vessel growth via a process called angiogenesis. Blood flow is crucial for healing and for optimal organ function.
Reduce Inflammation
Inflammation has been shown to be at the root of most chronic disease. Oxygen under pressure activates genes that reduce inflammation and promote profound healing.
Reduce Pain
By increasing oxygenation of the body’s tissues, increasing blood flow and reducing inflammation, hyperbaric oxygen therapy can greatly reduce pain and support healing.
